Seeking to overcome the hinderances for artistic exploration in our country's current context, most which pertain to having access to certain tools, I decided to experiment with tablet weaving.

En la búsqueda de superar las limitaciones de nuestro contexto a la hora de conseguir herramientas para continuar la exploración artística, decidí exprimentar con la técnica del tejido de tabletas.

This techinque requieres a number of punched tablets that move forwards and backwards following a pattern, all the while the weft passes through the shed.

Esta técnica utiliza una serie de tabletas perforadas que se mueven hacia adelante o hacia atrás siguiendo un patrón, mientras que a su vez se teje la urdimbre. 

Despite the wide array of historical patterns that are easily found online, my interest in designing led to to creating my own patterns, first in paper and later using digital tools.

A pesar de que hay una vasta colección de patrones históricos que se pueden encontrar facilmente, mi interés me llevó a crear mis propios patrones, primero en papel y luego utilizando herramientas digitales. 

A fundamental aspect of textile art, particularly of weaving, is tension. Having the right amount of tension in the threads is extermely important in achieving a consistent quality of the piece. Although tablet weaving can be done using a backstrap loom, this leads to a series of challenges when trying to mantain consistent tension.

Uno de los aspectos fundamentales del arte textil, en específico del tejido, es el de la tensión. Tener una tensión apropiada de los hilos es de suma importancia para poder tener una calidad consistente. Aunque el tejido de tabletas se pueda realizar utilizando un telar de cintura, esto presenta una serie de inconvenientes a la hora de mantener una tensión consistente en los hilos. 

This is why I built an inkle loom using a box and a few wooden and cardboard sticks. This grately increased the ease of making this type of woven pieces.

Es por esto que construí un telar utilizando una caja y varillas de metal y cartón. Esto facilitó en gran manera poder realizar tejidos.

This experience has stoaked the desite to learn even more about historical weaving techniques.

Esta experiencia ha avivado el deseo por ahondar todavía más en técnicas históricas de tejido.
